Interesting facts: This rare basil variety grows to about 30-40 cm tall and is characterized by a pleasant, sweet, aromatic fragrance. The annual plant grows bushy, is very sturdy, productive, and vigorous. Its reddish-purple flowers and vibrant, dark green leaves make it exceptionally decorative. Don't miss out on the exotic blend of cinnamon and basil flavor. The leaves have a wonderfully subtle cinnamon scent.
Origin: Native to Mexico - also widespread in other tropical countries. Cultivation: Scatter the seeds on moist potting soil or seed-starting mix, cover lightly, and germinate at 18-20°C. The first seedlings will appear after 10-12 days. Sowing can be done in pots, window boxes, or directly in the garden. As a heat-loving plant, basil only germinates at temperatures above 17°C (63°F). Therefore, do not sow it outdoors before mid-May. The leaves are suitable for tomatoes, cheese, pestos, and for seasoning pureed soups, stews, or ratatouille. Cinnamon basil is also a wonderful companion to Mediterranean vegetables such as zucchini and eggplant. The plucked or chopped leaves should only be added shortly before the dishes are finished. Basil has its most intense and best aroma just before flowering. Pinching off the shoot tips extends the harvest period.
Care: Cinnamon basil loves warmth and needs sheltered, sunny locations. Good herb-rich or nutrient-rich soil guarantees vigorous and healthy growth. Keep it evenly moist and fertilize occasionally. To continuously encourage new growth, it is best to always cut off the entire shoot tip at harvest time, and not just the individual leaves.
Overwintering: The plant is an annual and should be propagated again.
