"Feed me - Feed me" - probably the best known sentence from the `Little Shop of Horrors`

Good to know: The Venus flytrap is probably the best known of all carnivorous plants! The two leaf halves close quickly as soon as an insect traps. Soft insects are even crushed by the power of the traps. The prey of the Venus flytrap is broken down by digestive enzymes and after a few days the trap opens again.

The Venus flytrap is home to the raised bogs of North Carolina's American Atlantic coast.

The Venus flytrap loves a bright to full sun place.

Only plant the plants in unfertilized peat and never water from above. The pot should be placed in a coaster that is always 1 to 3 cm high with low-lime water.

Never fertilize or only very rarely fertilize! It is enough for the plant as fertilizer to catch insects - these nutrients can be stored for up to a year.

After 4 to 5 "digestions" per trap, these become black and can be removed by cutting them out. New traps are growing. In the long run, it is harmful for the traps to artificially move them (e.g. by touching them with your fingers) to close the traps.

Water a little less in winter, but don't let the soil dry out. It is best to keep the pot bright and cool (4 ° to 12 ° C). It can happen that many traps turn brown and die. The plant then does not die, but retains a kind of winter dormancy and emerges again in April. Please continue to water if there are no more traps to be seen.

The seeds can be grown indoors all year round. Spread the fine seeds on a well-moistened sowing substrate. The best germination is achieved at 23 ° to 28 ° C and takes place after 4 to 6 weeks.

We supply the seeds with special carnivore soil, in which the plants can remain after cultivation.

It is also ideal for repotting or for designing plant pots with insect-eating landscapes.
